Eastbury is a small pretty village in The Valley of the Racehorse. The road through the village follows the northern bank of the River Lambourn (a winterbourne) and a small back lane follows the southern bank. Along the 2 roads there are many period buildings ranging from small cottages to large medieval barns. Thatched roofs, flint walling, red brick and timber framing are in abundance. Part of the strip between the two roads has been informally landscaped with roses, providing an attractive and colourful feature in summer.
The parish church in the centre of the village is the Church of St. James the Greater. The building dates from 1851 and has flint walls and a tiled roof. On the opposite side of the river, by the road there is a fine medieval preaching cross. |
