Englefield is a small village mainly within the estate of Englefield House in the eastern Berkshire Downs. It was built as a model village at the end of the 19th century. It comprises a single short road which ends with gates to the park and the private drive to Englefield House at the edge of the deer park.
The Victorian parish church, St. Mark's, accessed long the private drive to Englefield House, incorporates many earlier features of a mostly 13th century building and has a nave dating from about 1190. |
