Yatesbury is a very small village in the south of the Marlborough Downs with mainly modern property and few period cottages. Villagers of Yatesbury have the luxury of there being no through traffic, there being only one road into the village making it free from non-local traffic.
The road loops around the village but unfortunately there are insufficient views of the village to photograph.
The parish church of All Saints has 12th-century origins, and 13th-century work can be seen inside; the nave roof and tower are 15th-century. On the south wall is a canonical sundial. The chancel was rebuilt in 1854. The church is about half a mile to the west of the main concentration of houses. RAF Yatesbury is a former Royal Air Force airfield near the village. It was an important training establishment in the First and Second World Wars, and until its closure in 1965. In the churchyard are several war graves. Yatesbury is about 1 mile north of the Bath Road (A4) between Calne and Marlborough. |
